Opulence und Reduction in Glass
The 2020 Conference (of Committee V) of the German Glass Society (DGG) will be dedicated to the themes of opulence and reduction in the creation of glass objects and their production. The general title invites all those attending to formulate questions touching on the two contrasting concepts playing an actual role or a role through association and how they might be interpreted. Opulence might be considered in connection with décor, materiality, proportions, presentation or representation. Reduction draws our attention to a rejection of tradition and ornamentation and to a focus on functionalism, construction and economy. Our host in 2020 is the Focke Museum – Bremen’s Regional Museum for Art and Art History – which offers visitors several opportunities for finding links relevant to their interests in its collection of exhibits from pre-history and early history through to the present. The organizers of the annual conference are happy to invite all those interested in the history of glass and its creation and keen to learn more about these subjects to participate. The conference is also open to non-members of the German Glass Society.
