BlackBox

20 Years of Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung

With the BlackBox, the foundation opened an additional location in the heart of Munich’s Park-stadt Schwabing in November 2021 celebrating its twentieth anniversary. The building, completed in 2020, has spacious rooms that will in future offer opportunities to show large-format photo-graphs and room-filling installations from the foundation’s collection. A multifunctional space also offers opportunities for various event formats such as lectures and artist talks, symposia and workshops.

In keeping with the curatorial concept of the foundation’s collection the first exhibition WIDE OPEN. INS OFFENE held at the new BlackBox and at the Villa show contemporary photographs and sculptures made of glass, all of which – with a few exceptions – have been acquired for this exhibition.
The show presents hundred works by more than thirty artists of diverse cultural backgrounds, from South Africa, Iran, China, Cuba, the USA, and Europe. Amongst are recent works made of glass by Monica Bonvicini, Shirazeh Houshiary or Laure Prouvost.
