Glass and the Sea

The 2027 annual conference of Technical Committee V for Glass History and Glass Design of the German Society for Glass Technology in Hamburg is titled “Glass and the Sea.” The call for papers is open to contributions from experts, early-career researchers, artists, conservators, designers, archaeologists, collectors, and glass enthusiasts.

Under the theme “Glass and the Sea,” the conference will focus on artistically designed glass from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as glass with regional ties to Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and the Hanseatic League. We welcome lectures and short presentations that explore the diverse facets of glass as a material, provide new insights, and draw on research, professional practice, collections, or artistic creation.

The annual conference will take place from March 4 to 6, 2027, in Hamburg at the Achilles Foundation. The program also includes a visit to the storage facility of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, as well as a guided tour of artistically designed church windows. The program and registration information will be posted here shortly.
