European Glass Context 2021

Bornholm Biennial

Since the start in 2006, the Danish island has hosted the European Glass Context, a Biennial for contemporary European Glass and Ceramics . In 2021, the focus is on glass and sustainability. Two main exhibitions consider four categories: Artworks can be either based on a site-specific context, relate to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, act politically or activist, or can be masterpieces in glass. A competition is also offered each time. In addition, EGC 2021 offers an artist-in-residence program for two artists or craft practitioners working with glass. They can work for six weeks in the studio facilities of the Royal Danish Academy's Glass Department. It is not without reason that Bornholm was awarded the title of World Craft Region in 2018: it has one of the highest densities of artisans in Europe.
