Training in conservation and restoration to end in Erfurt
Erfurt University of Applied Sciences ends training opportunity 2024
Since 1994, the Conservation and Restoration department at Erfurt University of Applied Sciences has trained around 400 students from Germany and abroad to become specialists who are now working in the museum and heritage conservation sector, in research and teaching.
The subject was strongly rooted in the region and the Free State of Thuringia, but was also recognized nationally and internationally. For the city of Erfurt, she recently restored a collection of Jewish gravestones from the Middle Ages as well as the culturally and historically significant “Room with the Flowered Ceiling” (13th century), which is on the city of Erfurt's tentative list for its application as a “UNESCO World Heritage Site”.
It had a highly specialized natural science laboratory, which was commissioned by domestic and foreign institutions.
Despite its importance in the German and international arena, the University of Applied Sciences closed the course on 30.09.2024 after thirty years for financial reasons. It was the only course in Germany to offer training in the restoration and conservation of stained glass and glass objects.
