The Coburger Glassprize 2022
The Coburg Glass Prize is the most important competition for contemporary glass art in Europe. The accompanying exhibition is being held for the fifth time, following previous editions in 1977, 1985, 2006, and 2014.
Works by 90 international artists were selected by an international jury, representing current artistic trends centered around the material of glass. The open call in March 2020 attracted around 400 artists from around the world, who submitted over 700 works. All entries are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
In addition to artistic perspectives on climate change and sustainability, the exhibition includes statements on political oppression and the COVID-19 crisis. A strong tendency can be seen to use glass as a meaningful and multilayered medium.
With its highly relevant themes and wide range of techniques, the Coburg exhibition is one of the most exciting highlights of the 2022 International Year of Glass.
