Glass works by Sibylle Thebe
As a painter, art historian Sibylle Thebe has also been working in the medium of stained glass since 2018. What fascinated her about this new approach was the translucency of the material. The immediate perception of light, the vibrancy and radiance of the colors interested her from the very beginning of her artistic work.
In January 2018, she was given the opportunity to experiment with float glass painting in the Gustav van Treeck workshops. Since then, she has created free-swinging mobiles and steles from panes positioned in relation to each other.
The behavior of lead-containing pigments in the firing process poses a great challenge. It is the randomness, the letting things happen, that makes the artistic result so difficult to plan in advance, but all the more fascinating.
Sibylle Thebe's three-dimensional steles and mobiles span space and in-between space. Color, light, architecture and nature interact.
